Aside from Airbnb and Booking.com, here are some tips for accommodation:
Unfortunately, we do not have enough space to accommodate plus ones who have not been named on the invite.
With the exception of children within our close family, the ceremony and reception will be adult-only.
If you’re staying somewhere central, we’d recommend catching a train or coach to Oxford if you can. All of the wedding events will be within walking distance, so you won’t need a car, and if you’re able-bodied, being on foot is the best way to experience the city. Oxford’s also well-served by Uber and local buses, which accept contactless card payment.
Here’s some information about trains:
The best way to book trains is through Trainline or National Rail. Make sure you avoid travelling in peak times for a cheaper fare. If you’re not a UK resident, you can and should still consider getting a Railcard, a type of discount card that can save you a third on the cost of your fares.
The main Oxford railway station is just a short walk or ride from the city centre and most hotels, and Oxford Parkway railway station is served by four different buses that take about 12 minutes to get into the city centre.
It’s also pretty quick and simple to drive to Oxford, whether you’re coming from London (usually about 75 minutes), the north or an airport. Parking can be a bit of a fiddle in town, though, so bear that in mind when making your plan. There’s more information about parking on our wedding day in one of the other FAQs.
After the ceremony, our journey to The Medley Walled Garden will be part of the day’s experience; a short stroll across Port Meadow with beautiful riverside views and the odd cow or horse.
The walk takes around 15 minutes at a leisurely pace. There's no need to worry about directions — we'll have local sherpas (Ed's friends) guiding the way, so everyone can relax and enjoy the scenery. Ladies — we recommend bringing a pair of comfortable flats to make the meadow stroll more enjoyable.
If walking isn’t ideal, taxis or car lifts take around 5–10 minutes, and local taxi services can be booked in advance. Parking at the Medley Walled Garden is plentiful, and cars can be picked up the next day.
Our wedding ceremony will be indoors, the drinks reception will be outdoors (weather permitting!), and dinner and dancing will be in a marquee.
We'd love you to come dressed formally so ladies, please come wearing dresses or jumpsuits. If you’re planning to join the stroll across Port Meadow, make sure to bring or wear a comfy pair of shoes or flats. Gentlemen, don your lounge suits with a shirt and tie, or morning suits if you'd prefer.
It's possible to park on most of the streets around St Margaret's Church, such as St Margaret's Road itself, for free for up to two hours on weekdays and Saturdays. If you are planning to do that, we'd recommend arriving with ample time before kick-off at 1pm to avoid any stress.
After the ceremony, you'll then be able to drive over and park in a field at the venue, the Medley Walled Garden, who have kindly agreed to allow us all to leave cars overnight for collection on Sunday morning. Note that, while the roadworks that currently block Botley Road by the railway station are scheduled to finish at some point in August 2026, this isn't guaranteed, and in the event that they're not, the alternative route between the church and the venue via the A34 may take a little longer (~20 minutes).
As previously mentioned, for the able-bodied amongst you, our recommendation is to come to the church without your car if you can. It's a really pleasant stroll up from central Oxford to the church, either via the canal path or the buzzy Walton Street in Jericho. You can easily catch a bus or grab an Uber if you don't fancy the walk. You'll then also be able to enjoy the beautiful stroll across Port Meadow to the venue.
The music will end at 23:00, and our venue will ask guests to leave by 23:30. Because of ongoing construction work on the Botley Road, the easiest pick-up point for taxis will be in Jericho. We’ll organise a short guided walk across Port Meadow from the reception to the taxi pick-up area so you won’t need to worry about navigation or getting lost. Please book your taxi for around 23:30 (or shortly after) to make for a smooth departure. Uber is also available in Oxford.
